David Heyman recently called a rough cut of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2, "very exciting", despite it having no visual effects, music, or sounds effects.
Talking with Empire Online, Heyman spoke about the 'Potter' franchise coming to an end, as well as some of the juicer material to come in Part 2, including the King's Cross sequence and Snape's memories.
Yeah. I've seen a very, very early cut. It's very exciting. No visual effects, no music, no sound effects, and it's really exciting. But it's early days and the film continues to take shape and will continue to take shape over the next many months. I think it will be a great ending to the series. It was a really long shoot; we shot over 260 days on this one.
…Well, in a way this is an easier structure than Part One because it's quite defined. In terms of the King's Cross scene, I think it does work and it's very moving. We actually did it once, and then re-did it a little bit because we needed to refine something, and I'm pretty glad we did. It's a very quiet, moving scene, but I think it leaves the series on the right note. The only flashback really that one thinks about is the Snape flashback, when Harry goes into the Pensieve to see Snape's story, and that'll be defined, but it'll be very moving.

David Heyman, David Yates on Alexandre Desplat's 'Deathly Hallows' music, John Williams returning
By Andy on 16 November 2010 at 15:33 GMT
Earlier this month Harry Potter Fan Zone spoke with the cast and crew of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows as part of the London press junket.
Below you can read our interviews about the music of the final two films, including producers David Heyman and David Barron commenting on the possibility of John Williams scoring the final Potter film.
Harry Potter Fan Zone (HPFZ): Was John Williams ever asked to score Deathly Hallows: Part 2? Did he decline?
David Heyman (DH): Yes, he was. We wanted to make it work with John but John's schedule didn't permit.
David Barron (DB): He was just unavailable unfortunately.
HPFZ: He wanted to do it?
Both: He did, very much so.
DH: We asked him around the time of [movie] six. Actually, we talked to him all the way along [about coming back for the end] but his schedule didn't permit.
DB: It's incredible for a man of advancing years who you think might be taking it easy, we spoke to him almost two years before the scoring sessions for this film and already then he had schedule issues.
DH: And then he tried to work his schedule to try and accommodate it but it just wasn't possible.
We also asked director David Yates about the use of "Hedwig's Theme" in Deathly Hallows: Part 1.
HPFZ: Alexandre Desplat mentioned that you picked very specific moments for "Hedwig's Theme". What was so significant about those moments?
David Yates (DY): Anything that felt like we were being nostalgic or in a way reflective of the past. That's when we used it.
HPFZ: Was it a conscious decision for him to play with the melody?
DY: Yeah, we wanted it to feel like it was all getting a bit distressed. We wanted to sort of [mess] it up a bit.
We'll have more, including an interview with Alexandre Desplat, the composer for the Deathly Hallows films, later this week.

David Heyman on Battle of Hogwarts, tone of the films
By Andy on 18 July 2009 at 02:07 GMT
The climactic "Battle of Hogwarts" in Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part II will be around thirty-minutes long, according to a new interview with David Heyman. Also in the interview, Heyman notes that part I will be, "a road movie", while part II, "more operatic with the huge, great battle for Hogwarts".
The ending of part 2 is one of the last things they’re going to shoot. David also says he expects the ending battle to be around 30 minutes in the movie. He says the gang gets to Hogwarts early on and then they’re a lot of build up to the battle.
Also noteworthy, Heyman mentions that both films will be around two-and-a-half-hours in length. You can read the full interview at this link.

Dan Radcliffe & David Heyman elaborate on DH split
By Hannah on 22 April 2009 at 00:17 GMT
In an interview with Empire magazine, Daniel Radcliffe and David Heyman elaborated about the "split scene" dividing Deathly Hallows: Part 1 and Deathly Hallows: Part 2:
"We've played around with a couple of places," said Heyman, "and ultimately settled on a place that we think is very exciting, and I think quite bold, in that it's not necessarily where one might expect. You want to give a sense of completion, on one hand, but a sense that there's another piece, more to come. We tried one and then Steve (Kloves, screenwriter) came up with the idea to try it another way and when we tried that, it felt just right."
Daniel Radcliffe added that the split is "at a very tense cliffhanger," which may be a bigger clue for fans.
Tell us where you think Part 1 will end in the comments!

'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows' film to be in two parts
By Andy on 15 March 2008 at 10:18 GMT
It's now official – Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows will be split into two separate films.
David Heyman (Producer):
Over ten years ago, we made a commitment to Jo Rowling that, above all else, we would be faithful and true to the spirit of her books, and ever since we have endeavored never to compromise on the creative ambitions of the films. The Deathly Hallows is so rich, the story so dense and there is so much that is resolved that after discussing it with Jo, we came to the conclusion that two parts were needed to do it justice. I am thrilled that David Yates is returning to direct ‘The Deathly Hallows.’ He is both inspired and inspiring and is a passionate fan of the remarkable world and characters Jo has created. I know he will lead our incomparable cast and crew—most of whom have been with us since the very beginning—in bringing the series to the unforgettable conclusion it deserves.
David Yates (Director):
I've had great pleasure working with a tremendous cast and crew thus far, on both ‘the Order of the Phoenix’ and ‘the Half-Blood Prince.’ It’s a wonderful world to work in and be part of and to create within, and I consider it a great privilege to continue to bring Jo’s extraordinary world to the screen, and to be the director to complete this epic and exhilarating journey.
Dan Radcliffe (Harry Potter):
I think it's the only way you can do it, without cutting out a huge portion of the book. There have been compartmentalized subplots in the other books that have made them easier to cut — although those cuts were still to the horror of some fans — but the seventh book doesn't really have any subplots. It's one driving, pounding story from the word go.
